The Hill Methodist Church

Kirkby Light Operatic  Society

The choir was formed in 1962 to encourage four part singing in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. It currently has 35 members and new members are always welcome to join the choir.

Musical performances have concentrated on operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan, Lehar, Strauss, Edward German and other similar composers. Concerts too of a different nature are given using attractive items from stage shows past and present together with other musical favourites.

Both professional and semi professional soloists are engaged to sing title roles in operettas and to be our guest artistes at our other concerts. On other occasions our guests are brass bands of well known reputation and very popular in the area.

Three musical directors have served the choir very well and to a very high standard.  .............. is our present musical director. The Society's accompanists have always given excellent service. Stephen Wall currently ocuppies this role.

Rehearsals take place each Friday evening from 7.00pm to 9.15pm in the Hill Methodist Church Schoolroom from September to July. The members pay a weekly subscription.

Concerts are presented at different venues : Ashfield School and the Festival Hall. Our Annual Charity Carol Concert is held in the Hill Methodist Church.
